Explorer

opened and exposed
clearer dawns have risen before
spent and hollow how we’ve grown

held up high the truths we’ve heard
caught between the falling eyes and thoughts again

wait no more for now you know
how to feel the breath of wise minds gone astray
hang up the look of emptiness
towards the sky
you see the future smile

as the lights go out
rolling visions hide low and silent
take some time oh how you’ve grown

awoken by the tone of what you’ve seen in the past
cut the time and drinks in half

how long will this last?

  1. Awesome man! Let me be the first to say “welcome to the party.” You are definitely talented with words ^_^

I like this one a lot. As soon as I started reading it I was struck by the rhythm of it, the flow is very lyrical and the tone is deep and searching.

I especially liked the imagery which feels stark and skyward, and the last couplet definitely resonates. I also noticed the structure wasn’t bound to the triplet it starts on, it added to the somewhat tangled feeling of the thoughts that unravel. It clashes a bit in my mind which often looks to order things, but that added to the effect this had on me.

    Very cool.

  2. hey hey

thanks again for taking the time to read my lyrics

so the “tangled feeling of the thoughts that unravel” is right on here. that is what i was going for.

this was something i wrote in college and turned out to be a killer song for my band. the first two verses are in the same amount of bars in the song, but have different phrasing to fit and it didn’t read right if made to fit the opening verse.

this was writted from the perspective of me at about 14-15 years old realizing that everything my parents or people looking out for me might not be in my best interest. and the realization of how to live more by my own set of ideals. the title was given to me from a band mate. i had no title for the longest time. works out as an exploration through how to grow up, so i thought explorer was a fitting title.

thanks again for taking the time!

    Matt
